Daniel Escobar Dead: 'Lizzie McGuire' Actor Dies At 49

"Lizzie McGuire" actor Daniel Escobar has died. He was 49 years old.

Escobar died Friday (Dec. 13) of complications from diabetes while in a Los Angeles hospital, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The DC Theater Scene blog reported Escobar was surrounded by loved ones before his death. The actor, best known for his role on the Disney series as Mr. Escobar and his work in local theater, will be fondly remembered by his stage family.

“Danny loved performing in Washington and being part of the Woolly company, and during the last couple of years he talked about moving back here,” Howard Shalwitz, who directed Escobar in a local D.C. production of "She Stoops to Comedy," told DC Theater Scene. “Sadly he won’t have that opportunity, but we’ll remember his warm friendship, his ironic sense of humor, and the many electric moments he gave us on stage.”

Adam Lamberg, who played Lizzie's best friend, Gordo, tweeted about Escobar's passing.

Escobar appeared on "Lizzie McGuire" as Mr. Escobar from 2001 to 2002, according to his IMDb profile. He reprised the role in "The Lizzie McGuire Movie" in 2003. He also appeared in "Malcolm in the Middle," "The Mexican," "Blow," "NYPD Blue," "Two and a Half Men," "Weeds" and "How I Met Your Mother."
