Her brand new holiday film âBlack Nativityâ opened in theaters today (November 27), and during promotions, Jennifer Hudson fronted the latest issue of Net-A-Porterâs The Edit.
While donning designer garbs from Saint Laurent and Marc Jacobs for the Francesco Carrozzini-shot spread, the 32-year-old actress/singer dished about winning her Best Supporting Actress Oscar award in 2007 and shared details about her life since becoming a superstar after âAmerican Idol.â
Check out a few highlights from Miss Hudsonâs interview below. For more, be sure to visit The Edit!
On her Oscar:
âI didnât know what the Oscars was. Where we come from, we donât know anything about that world. If you see it on TV, itâs like, âOh, people in fancy suits and ties.â Jamie Foxx [her co-star] was like, âYou know youâre going to win an Oscar?â I didnât pay him any attention. I was hired to do a job. Thatâs all I knew. â
On her life since âAmerican Idolâ:
"It is so bizarre to me to say, âOK, let me go email Alicia [Keys], let me go email Beyonce, let me go talk to Oprahâ¦â For so long I sat and admire them; now Iâm among them. What I feel about people you never heard from again is that they get too caught up in the hype. They think that just getting here is making it. No, itâs not making it. Itâs like a losing-weight situation: itâs one thing to lose it, itâs another to keep it off. Well, itâs one thing to make it, but itâs another thing to stay. [That is] why you have to constantly do stuff to keep peopleâs attention. Itâs a hustle, it really is.â
On her new movie âBlack Nativityâ:
âI turned down I donât know how many [musicals]. What drew me to this is that itâs a holiday film: Iâm a holiday fanatic. Itâs uplifting â" we donât have enough of that in the world.â
