Calling out one of the biggest names in pop music, Arsenio Hall responded to Kanye West, who recently used Hall as an example of a black entertainer who supposedly got shut down for taking his message too far.
Kanye went on a radio interview, saying, "What happens if y’all don’t don’t buy [my] albums? People are gonna say, ‘Oh, he’s like Arsenio Hall, and he was turning up too much, and now you fired. But when you’ve got money, can’t nobody fire you."
The 57-year-old comedian, retorted to West's claim, telling reporters, "“Like usual, Kanye’s premise confuses the facts, so then therefore everything else has to be thrown out. At the end of the day he’s a musician. I’m a comedian. We’re not doctors. Nobody works for Johns Hopkins… we’re not educators. And I think we take ourselves a little too serious. But that’s something that will straighten itself out with maturity.â€
Arsenio also shot down rumors about how and why he left his show in the 1990's, telling reporters that there was no racist plot against him. He said, "Don’t muddy the waters of racism with my bulls**t because it was not racism, it was not a plot."
Conclude with a critique of Kanye's news single, "Slave," the veteran entertainer said, "I hate the word ‘slave’ used in songs. Do you know what that word is? Do you know what that word is all about? Nobody can use 'slave' in pop culture. If you’re in the music business you shouldn’t f**k with that word. Too serious an error."
