Angela Lansbury Returns To West End For 'Blithe Spirit' Revival, Proves She's 88 Years Young

Angela Lansbury is an acting legend, freshly minted with an honorary Oscar for her decades of work. Now the "Murder, She Wrote" star is heading back to the stage in a West End revival of Noel Coward's "Blithe Spirit" as the clairvoyant Madame Arcanti.

In 2009, she won a Tony for the same role. The 88-year-old icon hasn't been back on the London Stage in 40 years. She told the Daily Mail, "You could say it’s my last chance. It isn’t! But you could say that. After all, I am 88 â€" in my 89th year now. But I’ve got many more years left. I do believe that.”

Recently, Lansbury came into the spotlight when she spoke out against the highly publicized "Murder, She Wrote" reboot, calling it "a mistake." She said, "I suddenly became a worldwide-known character as Jessica Fletcher and really built an enormous audience, which I have to this day." Fortunately, the reboot starring Octavia Spencer may go by a different name, and Spencer will not be playing a revamped Fletcher.

"Blithe Spirit" starring Angela Lansbury is scheduled to debut in March 2014. Celebrity - The Huffington Post

Bob Dylan Sued By Croatian Group For Comments Made About America's Slavery Past

Bob Dylan Sued By Croatian Group For Comments Made About America's Slavery Past

Bob Dylan has stirred up a deep-set racial conflict with comments he made earlier this year in the French edition of Rolling Stone.

The 72-year-old folk-rock icon, who was awarded the French Legion of Honor earlier this month, was discussing America's history with slavery when he made a comment that has reportedly riled up a Croatian community group.

When asked about parallels he sees between Civil War-era America and today, Dylan told the magazine:

"Mmm, I don't know how to put it. It's like . . . the United States burned and destroyed itself for the sake of slavery. The USA wouldn't give it up. It had to be grinded out. The whole system had to be ripped out with force. A lot of killing. What, like, 500,000 people? A lot of destruction to end slavery. And that's what it really was all about.

This country is just too f--ked-up about color. It's a distraction. People at each other's throats just because they are of a different color. It's the height of insanity, and it will hold any nation back -- or any neighborhood back. Or any anything back. Blacks know that some whites didn't want to give up slavery -- that if they had their way, they would still be under the yoke, and they can't pretend they don't know that. If you got a slave master or Klan in your blood, blacks can sense that. That stuff lingers to this day. Just like Jews can sense Nazi blood and the Serbs can sense Croatian blood."

It's those last few words that caused the stir. Harking back to centuries-old religious conflict between the majority Roman Catholic Croats and the Christian Orthodox Serbs as well as further rivalry that sprang up during World War II, Dylan referenced the bad relations that exist between the two groups. Amid lingering memories of the Croatian War of Independence that lasted from 1991 to 1995, the France-based Croatian community group in question has brought a lawsuit after finding Dylan's comments unsettling.

Europe's free-speech laws are stricter than those in the U.S., and the suit will move on to the next stages. Slate reports that it could take up to 18 months to settle, and if Dylan is found guilty, he may face a fine and formal sanction.

With America's First Amendment rights, it can be hard to see how a comment like this would generate litigation, especially for a musician who instantly became known as a champion of the civil rights movement. Anthems like "Blowin' in the Wind" and "The Times They Are a-Changin'" were synonymous with anti-war sentiments and the free-love iconoclasm that arose during the 1960s.

In an interview with Radio Times, Hanks talked about producing a British film, "Starter For 10," which starred James McAvoy, and featured Benedict Cumberbatch.

Though Cumberbatch had TV credits before the film, "Starter for 10" was one of his first motion pictures. Hanks said, "With every British actor who has since become a huge star! We had James McAvoy, Benedict Cumberbatch in his first or second movie, Rebecca Hall â€" it was definitely her first movie. We even had that guy â€" James Corden? Right. 'The Legend Of Hercules' -- Formerly Titled 'Hercules: The Legend Begins' -- Gets New Trailer

'The Legend Of Hercules' -- Formerly Titled 'Hercules: The Legend Begins' -- Gets New Trailer

In a continued effort to help distinguish it from its Herculean counterpart, Lionsgate has retitled "Hercules: The Legend Begins." The Roman-hero epic will now go by "The Legend of Hercules."

We're referring to the movie starring Kellan Lutz in the title role, which was recently moved up to a Jan. 10 release. That gives it further distinction from "Hercules: The Thracian Wars," the Dwayne Johnson flick that arrives on July 25.

Both movies are unsurprisingly ab-tastic, but the distinctions do continue. "The Legend of Hercules" is directed by Renny Harlin ("Die Hard 2," Deep Blue Sea") and comes with a smaller budget than the $ 110 million "Thracian Wars," which is helmed by Brett Ratner ("Rush Hour," "X-Men: The Last Stand"). The former is a standard origin story, whereas Ratner's version -- based on the graphic novel of the same name -- strips Hercules of his supernatural abilities and leaves him with only his adeptness at battle.

Now, is that all cleared up? If you're looking for a more visual representation, watch the newest trailer for Lutz's edition above.

Lady Gaga's Muppet Thanksgiving Special Flopped Majorly In The Ratings

Turns out, Americans aren't really into watching Lady Gaga sing and dance with Muppets on Thanksgiving.

Even with guest appearances from Sir Elton John, Kristen Bell, Ru Paul and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, the holiday special flopped big time in the ratings.

Only 3.6 million viewers tuned in to watch "Lady Gaga & The Muppets Holiday Spectacular" on ABC. Even worse, it had a 0.9 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic. For context, ABC aired an annual repeat of "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving," which celebrated its 40th anniversary, earlier in the evening and 5.3 million viewers watched. It had a 1.6 rating in the same demographic.

Entertainment Weekly points out that "A Very Gaga Thanksgiving," which aired on ABC in 2011 had a 78 percent higher rating with 5.4 million viewers.

Always the grateful artiste, Gaga paid no attention to her big ratings tank and tweeted a note to her fans the same night: "Happy Thanksgiving little turkey+tofurkey monsters, I love you with am, my heart and thought all day about how grateful I am to be"

How Pat Benatar's Rock 'N' Roll Love Story Began (VIDEO)

How Pat Benatar's Rock 'N' Roll Love Story Began (VIDEO)

For more than three decades, Grammy winner Pat Benatar has been rocking alongside her husband and music partner, Neil Giraldo. While on the road recently, Benatar and Giraldo invited "Oprah: Where Are They Now?" cameras inside their tour bus -- a "home away from home" -- to talk about the day they met.

"It was in New York City, it was the month of May 1979, and I got a call that said there's this artist, this person who just got signed and wanted to look for a partner to put a band together," Giraldo says. "So they sent me down."

"He was so crazy, he didn't even bring a guitar," Benatar says. "So he just asks one of the other guys that were auditioning for the one of the other parts if he could just use their axe."

Not expecting much from this first impression, Benatar says her back was turned from Giraldo. "I turned around and I saw him and I was like, 'Are you nuts?' -- I don't care if he can play, he's in the band!" Benatar says.

"But of course, he played amazing and it was exactly what I was looking for, so it was perfect right from the first moment," she says.

It took less than a year for Benatar and Giraldo to release their first major hit, "Heartbreaker." Today, they've been married for 31 years and have two daughters, Haley, 28 and Hana, 19.

"Oprah: Where Are They Now?" airs Sundays at 10 p.m. ET on OWN. Celebrity - The Huffington Post

But the most important move Vic made as guest-editor was to put her hubby on the cover. Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin photographed the famous couple looking... well, drop-dead gorgeous. Gender Inequality In Film By The Numbers (INFOGRAPHIC)

Gender Inequality In Film By The Numbers (INFOGRAPHIC)

Can Angelina Jolie hang with Hollywood's leading men, like Robert Downey Jr. and Denzel Washington? Just barely.

The war against gender inequality in film rages on with the New York Film Academy's latest findings. The school compiled data regarding the depiction of women in the top 500 movies from 2007 to 2012. The results are, unfortunately, in line with the continued rumblings emerging from the industry as of late, in which Sweden has mandated the Bechdel test and a USC study found that 70 percent of the speaking roles in 2012's 100 highest-grossing movies belonged to men.

The NYFA describes its study thusly: "In light of the record-breaking opening of the female-led action film 'Hunger Games: Catching Fire' this past weekend, the New York Film Academy decided to take a closer look at women in film and what, if any, advancements women are making. After reviewing the data, it is clear that Hollywood remains stuck in its gender bias. Of course, it’s not all disparaging news and there are a number of female filmmakers, characters, and emerging talent challenging the status quo. In addition, in the independent sphere, women made up roughly half of the directors at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, yet still struggle when it comes to films receiving a wide release. By shedding light on gender inequality in film, we hope to start a discussion about what can be done to increase women’s exposure and power in big-budget films."

Take a look at the infographic compiled by the NYFA below.

David Mamet: Obama Is A 'Tyrant'

David Mamet: Obama Is A 'Tyrant'

Oscar-nominated filmmaker and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright David Mamet has spent the past several years separating himself from Hollywood liberalism. In 2008, he penned a Village Voice essay titled "Why I Am No Longer a Brain-Dead Liberal." Earlier this year, he voiced his anti-gun control sentiments in a Newsweek piece. Now, Mamet has slammed President Barack Obama with a rather harsh label.

"He's a tyrant," Mamet said during an appearance on "The Hugh Hewitt Show." "And I give him great credit. He's always said that his idea was to reform the United States. And, you know, like many tyrants, like Wilson and like Franklin Delano Roosevelt, he believes that his way is the right way and that he's going to implement his vision of the world, and many agree with him. And he's acting in concert with his conscience. And I applaud him for that. I just disagree with everything he's done."

Mamet's sentiments are, of course, in good company, even among the liberal-heavy entertainment industry. Matt Damon ("Imagine if they had a leader"), James Woods ("This president is a true abomination") and director Oliver Stone ("Obama is a snake") are among the celebrities who've spoken out against Obama in recent months.

Just a few weeks ago, Mamet lambasted what he sees as the Obama administration's overreaching arm, telling The Daily Beast that the current government bears a resemblance to Lenin and Marx.

"Don’t you know who these people [members of the Obama administration] are?" the "Glenglarry Glen Ross" scribe asked. "What in their history do they find inconsistent with totalitarianism, or at best statism, or at worst Marxism? They want to take over the government. They don’t care how they do it. You can’t believe a word they say.”

Mamet, 65, has also tackled political subjects in his work, like the prescient presidential affair scandal in 1997's "Wag the Dog," for which he and co-writer Hilary Henkin received an Oscar nomination. Celebrity - The Huffington Post

Lindsey Vonn Ascends the Slopes After Knee Injury

Lindsey Vonn Ascends the Slopes After Knee Injury

Spending her Thanksgiving on the snowy slopes of Vail, Colorado, Lindsey Vonn jumped back into her ski boots, just nine days after another serious knee injury.

She posted several pics of herself in the snows of Vail on Instagram, with an excited caption that read, "I went skiing today!"

Last week, the 29-year-old skiing superstar went down hard, re-injuring her right knee, and worst-case scenarios suggested that she be unable to compete at the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, in February 2014.

However, she wouldn't let the odds bring her down. "I'm confident it's going to be okay," the 2010 Olympic gold medalist said on Wednesday. "Fingers crossed I can be racing next week. I've worked so hard all summer to get to this point … I'm still confident … I still have a lot left to achieve … and I still have time before Sochi."

Lindsey also posted a Facebook status that read, "First day back on snow since my crash and it was awesome! "I'm very thankful for many things this year (family, loved ones, great fans) but at this moment I'm happy to be on the mountain doing what I love â€" skiing!!"

Alexa Davalos Goes Film Noir In TNT's 'Mob City'

Alexa Davalos Goes Film Noir In TNT's 'Mob City'

LOS ANGELES (AP) â€" Alexa Davalos has handled her share of rough-and-tumble action in movies including "The Chronicles of Riddick," ''The Mist" and "Clash of the Titans."

But in TNT's new series "Mob City," the actress takes on the sophisticated nuances of film noir, in which come-hither glances and snappy patter are as key as the gunfire. Davalos plays Jasmine Fontaine, a woman trying to keep her footing in a post-World War II Los Angeles that's the dangerous turf of mobsters including Ben "Bugsy" Siegel (Ed Burns) and Mickey Cohen (Jeremy Luke), and the police waging war against them.

The drama series from writer-director Frank Darabont ("The Walking Dead," ''The Shawshank Redemption"), which debuts Dec. 4 for a three-week run, enthralled Davalos from the moment she read the first script.

It's evocative of such classic noir films as "The Big Sleep" and "Double Indemnity," and so is the Paris-born Davolos' performance, which recalls sultry, tough-dame turns by Lauren Bacall and Barbara Stanwyck. The 31-year-old actress discussed the genre and her character in a recent interview with The Associated Press.

____

AP: Did you have a passion for the noir genre before doing the series?

Davalos: My grandfather is an actor (Richard Davalos, 'East of Eden'), so I grew up watching all the films from that time period. I've always felt like I was born in the wrong era.

AP: How would you describe your character, Jasmine?

Davalos: She's a woman of that specific generation and all that entails. During the war, we know that women took on a lot of men's roles, and when the war ended and men came back, women were sent into a different space. I feel like Jasmine held on to that taste of individuality that she had.

AP: The period costumes are beautiful. Were they fun to wear?

Davalos: I miss it. I miss the garters, I miss the stockings, I miss every little element. I was given the choice, do you want to wear pantyhose, and I said no, no, no. I want to do the whole thing, top to bottom, the seamed stockings and all. Our costume designer, Gigi (Giovanna Ottobre-Melton), is an out-of-control wonder, and she tailor-made things for me, cut patterns from the 1940s and did it herself.

AP: What do you look for in a role, and did you worry about being typecast as a sci-fi or fantasy actor early on?

Davalos: We all do a few things that you kind of look back on and think, no one will remember that; that will be fine. It's being young and finding your way with everything. The older I get, for me it's about fear. If I read something and it scares the hell out of me, that's what I want to do. If it's a challenge and a massive risk and I'm going out on a limb ... those are the ones I want. And they are few and far between. I don't work very much because I'm very specific about what I want to do.

AP: What other projects have you done recently?

Davalos: I did a little film called 'Nina,' a small role. I played a French girl who was a nurse to Nina Simone. Zoe Saldana plays Nina.

AP: And what occupies you away from work?

Davalos: I'm such a hermit, I can't tell you. I love my garden (in Los Angeles). I spend a lot of time there. I travel. My heart really is in New York, in France. I go back as often as I can afford to. I read like a crazy person, I play the piano and I'm a photographer. I always say my photography keeps me sane. I spend a lot of time in the darkroom. It's a very solitary, quiet life when I'm not working.

AP: What music do you listen to?

Davalos: Sidney Bechet. I'm an old-timey gal. I have my granddad's record collection, which I treasure, and my father's â€" Rolling Stones to Sidney Bechet.

Carrie Underwood and Rashida Jones Perform Holiday-Inspired Pop Hits on "Late Night"

Carrie Underwood and Rashida Jones Perform Holiday-Inspired Pop Hits on "Late Night"

Bringing pop music and holiday classics together in one great show, Jimmy Fallon, Rashida Jones and Carrie Underwood performed a plethora of pop hits, each with their own holiday twist on “Late Night.”

Giving Thanksgiving, Hanukkah and Christmas themes to each song, the three performers parodied Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines," Daft Punk‘s "Get Lucky," Miley Cyrus‘ "Wrecking Ball," Katy Perry‘s "Roar" and Lorde‘s "Royals."

And although the songs were fun and silly, all three sang their hearts out for each one, creating a memorable and skillful show for all of the “Late Night” viewers!

One such parody, which was clever in its word usage was “Wrecking Ball,” whose lyrics read, “You made me cook a butterball/And then a green bean casserole/All you did was sit and watch football/And ignored all of your fa-a-mily/Ignored your fa-a-mily.” Enjoy the video below!

Russell Brand: Rupert Murdoch 'Animatronic Al-Qaida Recruitment Poster'

Russell Brand: Rupert Murdoch 'Animatronic Al-Qaida Recruitment Poster'

Russell Brand really, really doesn't like Rupert Murdoch and Murdoch's newspapers.

The actor tore into Murdoch and his media empire in a Guardian piece on Friday. The impetus was a Sun on Sunday story earlier this month that claimed Brand cheated on his girlfriend Jemima Khan.

"The pain, disruption and distress, that the Sun inflicted by falsely claiming that I cheated on my girlfriend, in the context of such awesome corruption, is a pale liver-spot on the back of Murdoch's glabrous claw," Brand wrote on Friday.

In the piece, he called Murdoch "an animatronic al-Qaida recruitment poster," and compared his Sun title to Hitler:

Rupert Murdoch, an animatronic al-Qaida recruitment poster, in his private letter to Sun staff, after the News of the World was briefly closed for a makeover (not through remorse, or shame, no, because they couldn't sell advertising space and because he wanted to launch the Sun on Sunday anyway because it's cheaper to run one title than two â€" some guys get all the luck) referred consistently to his pride in the Sun as "a trusted news source". Trusted is the word he used, not trustworthy. We know the Sun is not trustworthy and so does he. He uses the word "trusted" deliberately. Hitler was trusted, it transpired he was not trustworthy.

The actor went on at length criticizing "lies" from the Sun and the now-shuttered News of the World and practices like phone hacking. "We will never know the true extent of their dishonesty," Brand lamented about Murdoch's tabloids. Click over to the Guardian for the full piece.

He hit out at the cheating claims earlier this month, writing:

In "The Class of ’92," a documentary about the generation of Manchester United stars who came of age two decades ago, the 38-year-old revealed that he was allegedly forced to masturbate in front of teammates when he was 16 years old.

He claimed that the incident involved a calendar of soccer player Clayton Blackmore, and that the act was public.

“Everyone had an initiation that you had to go through on the youth team." said Beckham. "That was one of the most uncomfortable ones."

Nick Wechsler Talks Katherine Heigl in Brink November/December 2013

Nick Wechsler Talks Katherine Heigl in Brink November/December 2013

Taking time away from the set of his hit ABC series “Revenge,” Nick Wechsler fronted the November/December 2013 issue of Brink magazine.

While rocking a few poses for the Jared Kocka-shot spread, the 35-year-old actor chatted about his new popularity in Hollywood after signing on with the show and even revealed his thoughts on the accusations that Katherine Heigl is difficult to work with.

Check out a few highlights from Mr. Wechsler's interview below. For more, be sure to visit Brink!

On dealing with pressure:
“It never overwhelms me. I’m not a star. I’m just some dude. I can leave my house and get groceries and go to the gym and live my life, and nobody bothers me. They ask a lot of stuff on Twitter, and I can’t answer everything, you know? My policy is I’ll just tweet about the episode when I’m watching it, and on the commercial breaks, I’ll start answering as many questions as I can before I come back from the commercial break. I’m just trying to do what I can, but then I give myself most of the rest of the week off. It’s mostly because I don’t know what to do with Twitter. I’m just an awful human being I guess. But no, it hasn’t been overwhelming at all. I’m not at the level where it’s suffocating.”

On being a guest star of “It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia”:
“Well, in comedies, the guest star â€" well, let’s just use the drama procedural on network television â€" the guest gets cast and gets a lot of cool s*** to do. You’re often the one that has the neat emotional arc. You also get to play someone who’s hiding something, and then it’s revealed. You get to go off of an emotional scene, blah, blah, blah. Primary cast is… for them, it’s a lot of talking to suspects, and you can do it in your sleep. In comedy, the main cast gets to do all the cool s*** and the guest cast comes in as a straight man. My character wasn’t a total straight man. It was a bad guy, and it’s a hilarious twist for me. I’ve just never been satisfied by my own performance, which is probably because I take comedy very seriously. I just want to be â€" I don’t know… It matters more to me than drama, to be honest. I just love that show, and those guys are brilliant. I watch what they do, and I go, ‘I wanna do that! How do I get to play li ke they do?’”

On working with Katherine:
“I’m actually still good friends with her, and she’s just like… I can see how people arrived at these conclusions about her. I wasn’t there for a lot of what people are complaining about. I guess I can see how it would be misconstrued or [they] took it the right way. There are probably moments when she shouldn’t have done this, but actually I think that a lot of the time things are misconstrued. At this point, people are waiting for her to be an a**hole, and I think that’s really when they start looking into… If I deliver a thing in a way or [get her to] say something, in her case, people will air it. It sucks, because she’s actually a great person, and people are usually surprised when I introduce her because of what they’ve heard, you know? That’s the thing â€" she’s not that person. It’s just we have all been roughed and toughed in this business. And you don’t want to be on the business end, hopefully, that’s where this led to. But I don’t k now, I can’t comment on that stuff. I just know that she’s been amazing to me. I love her dearly, and she’s been such a good friend to me, and I think she’s trying. She’s not happy with some of her decisions."

Kenny Loggins On The Blue Sky Riders And How His Approach To Music Has Changed

Kenny Loggins On The Blue Sky Riders And How His Approach To Music Has Changed

NEW YORK (AP) â€" Logic, it turns out, isn't always the way to go, at least not for Kenny Loggins.

Had he listened to that particular little voice in his head, the two-time Grammy winner with 12 platinum records would be kicking back at home right now in Santa Barbara, Calif. Instead, at 65, he's hitting the stage and studio with a whole new act and a whole new sound nearly five decades into his music career. He's got three songs on a CD tucked inside a new "Frosty the Snowman" picture book out on Imagine, Peter Yarrow's imprint.

But he's been making serious music with the Blue Sky Riders, his country rock trio with Nashville's Gary Burr and Georgia Middleman. They have a new Christmas CD, "Finally Home," co-produced by Peter Asher and featuring a tune called "Dream" that has this line: "You take the glory days/I'll take what's on its way/No one can tell me my best days are done."

___

The Associated Press: How has storytelling changed for you?

Loggins: At the beginning of my career, Loggins and (Jimmy) Messina, Jimmy was my mentor. I had not done anything professionally, so it was all a period of learning and just kind of sitting back and watching, seeing how things were done. Then when I went solo I started to take what I'd learned and put it into action. No matter what phase of life you're in, it's always a learning procedure. Then when I hit this third act, as some people are calling it, I discovered that I had a pretty clear picture of the kind of thing I wanted to do for this next part of my life. ... In 'Dream,' 'Too old to dream' became this pivotal phrase that Georgia developed into the chorus of the song, that sometimes logic doesn't win out, that the heart and the passion has got to win out.

AP: Are there similarities between your blend with Messina and your blend with Gary?

Loggins: The blend with Messina is more akin to the Everly Brothers. There's a certain nasal, edgy thing that Jimmy and I had in common. We wrote two songs together in the six years that we were together, but Loggins and Messina was Jimmy doing his thing and Kenny doing his thing and then we'd bring it together to blend it. Blue Sky Riders is very much a writing machine. We write together as a trio. Ninety-eight percent of what we have on the new record we wrote together. And we do the vocal arrangements as we're writing the songs, so it's much more of a partnership, a family. And we love and respect each other, and it's been a great ride. I hope that it holds.

AP: Part of how Blue Sky Riders has financed the group is through house parties. Are you all still doing those?

Loggins: We are doing house parties. We also play gigs now that the price of the gig has gone up enough that we can use that money. We've taken none of the money we've made, either through gigs or house parties, personally. And we were just debating today if we could take a couple of thousand individually 'cause, you know, Christmas is coming and they need the dough.

AP: You've written all these songs. You've collaborated on numerous others. Are you hurting for money?

Loggins: Sometimes, yeah. The second divorce was a problem. But it's not that I'm hurting for money as much as I need to stay creative. ... When Columbia Records dropped me from the label and I flirted with the idea of retiring, I found that I was getting very depressed. And that I needed to write. I needed to record in order to stay alive, to stay in touch with my own juice, and that made me happier and therefore I became a better dad, an easier person to live with.

AP: How has the music industry changed for you? Do you find yourself being cynical about the industry as a whole?

Loggins: I think that the music industry has changed dramatically, as we know, from the mama, papa stores, you know, and getting a record played on the radio one city at a time. You know, the monolithic ownership of radio stations has homogenized the playlists now so getting on the radio is a completely different game, I'm not sure one that I will even bother playing. Radio is still powerful, but the point being that things have changed and there are new rules and new ways to play the game and so part of the fun of jumping back in the pool is to learn the new rules.

AP: What would you be doing today, what would you have done with yourself, if not music?

Loggins: I really don't know. I've thought about that a lot, as to what I would have fallen back on, you know. I actually thought about it a lot when I was 50 and considered retiring, and I just saw that it wasn't going to work, that I had been in music and songwriting since I graduated high school and so I've really learned nothing else, that I am an expert at what I do and an idiot at everything else, for better or for worse.

1. Prince William & Kate Middleton:

It was arguably the most famous birth of the year, and Prince William and Kate Middleton welcomed Prince George into the world on July 22nd in London, England. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will celebrate their first Christmas as proud parents, and they couldn’t be more excited about their family expansion.

Following George’s arrival, a rep from Kensington Palace announced, "Mother, son and father are all doing well this morning. We would like to thank the staff at the Lindo Wing and the whole hospital for the tremendous care the three of us have received."

2. Kim Kardashian & Kanye West

There will be plenty of presents under the tree for baby North West (born on June 15th) on her first Christmas, and Kim Kardashian and Kanye West can’t wait to play Santa and Mrs. Claus. However, the “Love Lockdown” rapper insists that he’s the most blessed this holiday season. Speaking of his fiancé, Kanye gushed, "She's my joy, and she brought my new joy into the world and there's no paparazzi and there's no blog comment that's gonna take that joy from me."

3. Stacy “Fergie” Ferguson & Josh Duhamel

True love always multiplies, and Fergie and Josh Duhamel’s affections brought forth their son Axl on August 29th. Given mommy’s affinity for music, it’s no wonder the little guy is already getting into the game. Fergie explained, “We have our own little home-written songs. We harmonize and we sing together. We can be quite corny.” Perhaps Axl will be getting his own microphone from Santa this year!

4. Channing Tatum & Jenna Dewan-Tatum

They’ll be trimming the tree as a trio this Christmas, and Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan-Tatum couldn’t be happier about their gorgeous little girl Everly. The genetically-blessed tyke was born on May 31st in London, England while daddy was working on a film. Shortly after their baby’s arrival, Jenna and Channing’s rep shared, "Jenna Dewan-Tatum and Channing Tatum are thrilled to announce the both of their daughter, Everly Tatum… Sending love and light to Chan, Jenna and Ms Everly!"

5. Kristen Bell & Dax Shepard

They’re one of the cutest couples in Hollywood, and back in March, Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard added a third wheel to their family tricycle. Following the birth, the “Without a Paddle” hunk tweeted, "Lincoln Bell Shepard is here. She has her mom's beauty and dad's obsession with breast. Hooray!" And while mom and dad have both been busy with career duties as of late, they’re planning on taking some time off to fire up the Yule Log and decorate Christmas cookies in December.

6. Shakira & Gerard Pique

It wasn’t long after New Year’s Day that Shakira and her beau Gerard Pique said hello to their first child Milan. The “Hips Don’t Lie” singer took to her website to announce the news- "We are happy to announce the birth of Milan Piqué Mebarak, son of Shakira Mebarak and Gerard Piqué, born January 22 at 9.36pm in Barcelona, Spain. The name Milan (pronouced MEE-lahn) means dear, loving and gracious in Slavic; in Ancient Roman, eager and laborious; and in Sanskrit, unification. Just like his father, baby Milan became a member of FC Barcelona at birth." And while he can have pretty much whatever he wants for Christmas, something tells us Milan’s getting some soccer gear for his first holiday celebration.

7. Evan Rachel Wood & Jamie Bell

They kept things pretty low-key with regard to their baby’s arrival, and Evan Rachel Wood and Jamie Bell are over the moon about Baby Bell’s birth (July 29th). Though they’ve declined to share the child’s name, the “Wrestler” actress and her hubby weren’t shy about publicly displaying their gratitude via social media. Jamie tweeted, "Wow! What a day. Evan you are my warrior. You never cease to amaze me. Thank you for birthing our son so naturally & peacefully. You did it!" With so much to be thankful for and even more to look forward to, things in the Wood/Bell household are definitely merry this year.

8. Jimmy Fallon & Nancy Juvonen

He’s easily the most lovable (and huggable) host on nighttime television, so when Jimmy Fallon announced his wife Nancy Juvonen gave birth to daughter Winnie Rose back in July, Tinseltown all voiced a collective, “Awwww!” Of his newfound fatherhood, the “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” host gushed, "It's been a crazy couple of days â€" well, actually, just one day. It was just yesterday. It feels like I've had a four day conference. It's very taxing on the fathers. I don't know how it is for the mothers, but (it's) very taxing (for us). I'm emotionally drained. I'm a father of a beautiful baby girl. She's so cute. Her name is Winnie Rose Fallon and she's so cute. She's five pounds, nine ounces."

This year, Jimmy and Nancy will have an extra stocking to hang on their mantle, and even more love to celebrate with cheer!

New 'Nymphomaniac' Clip Places Charlotte Gainsbourg In Compromising Position (Very NSFW)

Another day, another lascivious clip -- ahem, "appetizer" -- from "Nymphomaniac."

The latest marks the sixth that's emerged since June, in addition to character posters and a trailer. We've already seen Shia LaBeouf strip down for a graphic sex scene, and now Charlotte Gainsbourg is the subject of what looks like a lewd S&M-style tryst. Titled "Chapter 6: The Eastern and the Western Church (The Silent Duck)," the clip's synopsis offers this mysterious description:

The Eastern Church is often referred to as the Church of Joy, and the Western Church as the Church of Suffering.

Should you make a mental journey from Rome eastwards, you'll find that you move away from guilt and pain, and towards light and joy.

However, what Joe comes to learn is that pain and pleasure can be closer than you'd think.

The LaBeouf clip was removed from YouTube because of its graphic nature, which might explain why this one was posted to Vimeo instead. In it, Gainsbourg, whose character is named Joe, unwraps a racy gift and strips down so it can be put to use.

A cut-down version of "Nymphomaniac," directed by Lars von Trier ("Dogville," "Melancholia"), will premiere in Denmark on Dec. 25 before making its way to other countries in the early months of 2014. No U.S. release has been scheduled, but the full five-hour version is also supposed to hit theaters sometime next year. Celebrity - The Huffington Post

Pregnant Drew Barrymore Does Some Serious Holiday Shopping

Pregnant Drew Barrymore Does Some Serious Holiday Shopping

Getting in some grocery shopping for Thanksgiving on Thursday (November 28), Drew Barrymore went out in Los Angeles, showing off her growing baby bump.

Cute in a gray tee and jeans, the "Going the Distance" starlet strode right along beside a friend, with a shopping cart full of Thanksgiving and Christmas goodies.

The 38-year-old beauty also wore a brilliant heart-shaped crystal pendant, and is expecting her second child with husband Will Kopelman.

Drew has also been readying daughter Olive to be a big sister. "I read her a lot of books. She loves books! That's her favorite thing in the world, books," she told Us Weekly. "She is 14 months so it's as much as she can grasp but she definitely gets it. She points to my stomach and says baby. How cool is that?"

Nick Lowe's 'Quality Street' Finds Rocker Crafting Holiday Album Filled With New Tunes

Nick Lowe's 'Quality Street' Finds Rocker Crafting Holiday Album Filled With New Tunes

NEW YORK (AP) â€" Nick Lowe wasn't exactly filled with the Christmas spirit when his American record company suggested he make his first holiday album.

He's no Scrooge. But for musicians in his native England, holiday albums aren't the coolest thing to do. A song or two is nice, but an entire album? It has the faint whiff of desperation. "Over the course of the afternoon of that day I started examining my feelings and said, well, wait a minute," he said. "This could be a great opportunity to do something that, if not standing a chance of being really good, it might at least be able to work on more than one level. So I changed my mind."

The disc, "Quality Street," is a goes-down-easy blend of rockabilly, crooning, acoustic picking and gospel. Among the dozen songs, "Silent Night" is the only well-known carol, and it is given a Tex-Mex flavor. Lowe's own "Christmas at the Airport" is about a snowed-in traveler, and "I Was Born in Bethlehem" came from imagining meeting Jesus Christ over a cocktail and striking up a conversation.

Lowe, 64, is a late-in-life dad and one can see him singing Roger Miller's lullaby "Old Toy Trains" to his own son.

Before the snow flew, he sat down to discuss the project.

___

The Associated Press: Many people choose to do their own versions of centuries-old Christmas carols, but for the most part you did tunes that are new or relatively unfamiliar. Why did you take that approach?

Lowe: We all knew that the hardest part would be gathering material. We wanted to try to avoid the 12 tunes that nearly everybody always does. And if we were going to do very familiar tunes, we wanted to dress them up in a new suit of clothes so they sounded fresh. Essentially we wanted to find tunes that were good songs. There are thousands of good Christmas records to choose from, but they're not necessarily good songs.

AP: No "Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer"?

Lowe: That one wasn't considered. At the same time, in order to give the thing some credibility, I think there had to be at least some original tunes there. I thought I could maybe manage one. In the end, I wrote two and a half, the half being the one I wrote with Ry Cooder. Ron Sexsmith came to the studio and a few days later he sent us a song.

AP: Your version of "Silent Night" sounds rather jaunty.

Lowe: It is a great tune. It hasn't stuck around all these years for nothing.

AP: Is it intimidating to write a holiday song, more than other songs? Do you want it to be sentimental and traditional, but not TOO sentimental and traditional?

Lowe: As much as we wanted to do something different and put some effort into it, we also were very aware that you have to sort of buy into the Christmas theme. Christmas is the biggest cliche there is, and you have to sort of join in with it. If it's too arty farty, it's not viewed very well.

AP: Have you ever spent Christmas at the airport?

Lowe: No, I'm pleased to say I haven't. It's sort of nonsense, anyway, as if they would close an airport down over Christmas. I've been snowed in at airports, but not at Christmastime.

AP: The sound is very traditional but hip. What were you seeking?

Lowe: I suppose what I was seeking was for somebody to say that it's the kind of record you could play outside of Christmas, just something that doesn't sound like some bad cash-in. We did enjoy doing it. People weren't rolling their eyes and saying, "Oh, blimey, it's a Christmas record, let's get on with it."

AP: What do you like to play at the Lowe household over Christmas?

Lowe: We are real Christmas record fans at our house. We do start playing them at the end of October, and sometime into January. It's always sort of in the background. There's some rockabilly stuff, Bing (Crosby), Tennessee Ernie Ford â€" one of my favorites. His voice just sort of says Christmas.
