While wintery weather blankets most of the nation, movie goers are sending "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" to the head of the box office for December 13-15, 2013.
The newly released fantasy adventure, which boasts a cast that includes Orlando Bloom and Orlando Bloom looks to be headed toward a $ 73 million opening weekend.
After stealing the show last week, Disney's acclaimed animated flick "Frozen" has landed in the second spot, with a projected three day total of $ 24 million
Rounding out the top five in earmarked earnings are Tyler Perry's "A Madea Christmas" ($ 15.5 million) in third, "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" starring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth ($ 14 million) in fourth and Chris Hemsworth's tale "Thor:The Dark World" ($ 3 million) in fifth.
